First in a trilogy of basketball-themed children's books. This collection of streetwise poems and sophisticated sepia-toned photos required sparse but dynamic typography and design. Although each spread is amazingly expressive, only two typefaces were used: Autotrace and Scala. Text swooshes and darts around the page, echoing each poem's subject. Rimshots is intended to grab the attention of reluctant readers, making the reading experience almost as stimulating as playing a game of basketball. A detail for perceptive basketball fans: many color combinations used on interior spreads are NBA team colors.
      Won a "Best Book" award in AIGA's Fifty Best Covers/Best Books competition for 1998 and received rave reviews. Printed in 4/c process.
